My First 2 Weeks as a TEACHER!

My experience as a teacher so far has been AMAZING. For those of you who don't know, I teach Math to middle school kids with learning disabilities. In these two weeks alone, I've realized that I have much more patience that I thought I had. I've also learned that I love kids! God has truly blessed me with an awesome bunch of young minds to mold.

My first two weeks has been super tough and exhausting as well. On my first day, the kids came in to my class with a "I don't care" and "I'm never going to do anything with my life" attitude. They did not want to work or even interact with me. When I asked them what they want to do in life, their answer was "Nothing, I'm going to drop out of school soon." My guess was that the previous teacher did not care about them and did not tell them he believed in them. I set about changing that mindset in my kids and now, I can't stop them from interacting and wanting to participate in class! I am really encouraged.

Every day, I get home at around 5:30 ready to hit the bed! I'm usually up till about 11:30 planning my lessons and activities for tomorrow but you know what? It's so rewarding to have my kids tell me that my class is the most fun and that they love it! At the end of the year, I pray that each and every one of them will believe in themselves and that they know they are special and intelligent. Already, I have a student who plans on going to technical school and aspiring to be an automotive technician (in the beginning he told me that he was going to drop out because of the gang that he is a part of; which really broke my heart)! PTL!

In short, I pray for my kids EVERY NIGHT and pray that God will give me the passion to teach these kids to learn and more importantly, HOPE. Thank You God for entrusting me with these kids and giving me the chance to make an impact in their lives! Thank You God for giving me the opportunity to enter this mission field!

AMEN, my child. You are a missionary. Remember the Word of Scripture that tells us "Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest-if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9. Love you much. Dad.
