I'm Almost 21!

I am just 21 days away from being 21! Is it odd that I feel so much older than 21? Mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually.. I feel about 50. Haha. Jk not 50 but still, older.

Any way, school has been going great but as usual, super exhausting. My little babies are doing so well and I'm so proud of them! (For the most part any ways.) I just found out today that I will be getting a new student after Christmas break is over and I am praying that this transition will be easy and smooth for the both of us! His previous teacher told me.. "He can't do much, he can barely add and subtract numbers less than 10." Well, that WILL change because that's what I was told about my current kiddos and guess what? Now we are working on simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions, percents, and decimals! We are wayyyyyy past adding and subtracting! I am so proud of my kids and thank God for all the patience and inspiration to teach. I truly believe that I have found my purpose in life and really thank God for opening this window for me!!!

Another reason that I am sooooo excited for this Christmas break is because my family will be coming down from Vancouver to stay with Harlen, Panda, and I! I have the guest room prepared already and it's waiting for them to arrive! Whoohoo! We miss the Chins oh so much. :) Can't wait to go shopping with my mom and sisters! Harlen has been a terrible shopping partner, as much as I love my husband. Haha. Love you babe!

Hope all of you have a blessed week and even blessed Christmas! Jesus is the reason for the season!

Love,
Kellee

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS is.... a Havanese puppy. :)

WINTER... finally!

I've officially been a teacher for 12 weeks and 3 days! Wooo it's been tough; very, very, very tough. It's been extremely stressful but at the same time, such a learning experience. I've been growing each and every day that I spend with my kids. The main problems I've had so far are some minor behavior problems but.. I guess that would be weird if I didn't, right? I mean, come on, I'm dealing with 11-14 year olds!

Other than school, we've finally moved into our new place! WE LOVE IT! There's so much more room and we finally have a place to put all our papers and books and actually focus! (That will all change when Victoria comes to live with us but for now.. it's great!) All of you guys will have to come over and visit one day. :)

Thanksgiving is coming up and I cannot wait because I get to SLEEP for a week! Then 3 weeks, and it's Christmas break!!! Woohoo! My family will be coming to spend Christmas and my 21st birthday with us! All I want for Christmas is my family.... and a puppy. Haha. Well, Panda wants a baby brother/sister because he's lonely by himself all day. ;)

Welcome to the USA!

The highlight of the month is that I finally received my GREEN CARD! Actually, it may have happened last month? I'm not sure but hey, still praising God for the speedy processing time!

School's been.. uh, BUSY. Still going great though. I survived the first 6 weeks!

Today was a very eventful and successful day. I went shopping with my friend and scored some great deals! None of which, by the way, I will be able to wear to work but I only work 40 hours out of a 168 hour week so it's all good! Harlen is downstairs as I am typing this working on his car yet again. It's serious this time because all of a sudden, it stopped working! GOSH DARN CAR.

I've finally embraced being Texan and bought a few flannel shirts and a pair of cowboy boots! Yeeeeehaw! Haha, I have no idea what came over me. I've also been obsessed over "Glee," this new TV series by Fox about a show choir in high school. I find myself reminiscing every week about my old choir days. :)

I have also discovered a new love for fish tempura tacos! OH MY GOODNESS, they are delicious! The next person who comes to visit me will get a free fish tempura taco! Sounds disgusting, I know, but trust me.... YUM YUM.

Okay, sorry for the random post. I simply typed what I was thinking so, naturally and obviously, I'm very scatterbrained tonight. Hope you're having a blessed weekend!!

I'm LOVIN' This Fall Weather!

Whoo I've been teaching for 5 weeks now and so far so good! I've hit some minor bumps but gotten past them and thanking God every day that He gives me with my kiddos. I've been so busy and tired but I woke up feeling awesome and refreshed today, Harlen did too! :)

Other than that, I've been approved to be a permanent resident of the USA and should be receiving my official green card in the mail soon! I'm so excited. Now I don't have to pay international prices for school! I will be starting my masters program next semester, if all goes along to plan.

Harlen is doing fine with school; busy as usual. He's been very dedicated to the Formula SAE program at UTA and really enjoys it. I'm so happy that he's found something that he enjoys at school.

Hmmm, pay day is on Monday and I'm SUPER HAPPY! I was so happy that I went on a shopping spree today.. of course, I bargain hunted. =p Hope you guys have a blessed week!!

My First 2 Weeks as a TEACHER!

My experience as a teacher so far has been AMAZING. For those of you who don't know, I teach Math to middle school kids with learning disabilities. In these two weeks alone, I've realized that I have much more patience that I thought I had. I've also learned that I love kids! God has truly blessed me with an awesome bunch of young minds to mold.

My first two weeks has been super tough and exhausting as well. On my first day, the kids came in to my class with a "I don't care" and "I'm never going to do anything with my life" attitude. They did not want to work or even interact with me. When I asked them what they want to do in life, their answer was "Nothing, I'm going to drop out of school soon." My guess was that the previous teacher did not care about them and did not tell them he believed in them. I set about changing that mindset in my kids and now, I can't stop them from interacting and wanting to participate in class! I am really encouraged.

Every day, I get home at around 5:30 ready to hit the bed! I'm usually up till about 11:30 planning my lessons and activities for tomorrow but you know what? It's so rewarding to have my kids tell me that my class is the most fun and that they love it! At the end of the year, I pray that each and every one of them will believe in themselves and that they know they are special and intelligent. Already, I have a student who plans on going to technical school and aspiring to be an automotive technician (in the beginning he told me that he was going to drop out because of the gang that he is a part of; which really broke my heart)! PTL!

In short, I pray for my kids EVERY NIGHT and pray that God will give me the passion to teach these kids to learn and more importantly, HOPE. Thank You God for entrusting me with these kids and giving me the chance to make an impact in their lives! Thank You God for giving me the opportunity to enter this mission field!

HOT Summer!

Wow it has been over 100 degrees for the past 13 days in Texas! It is INSANE. Well we are doing our best to stay cool by basically staying inside as much as possible. Haha.

I've been attending Texas Teachers' pedagogy training for the past 2 weeks now from 9-4 every day and I've really learned a lot. I am so excited for the school year to begin! We've gone over all these topics relating to being an effective teacher like: classroom management, cooperative learning, effective teaching, lesson design and development, and conducting assessments. It's been very exhausting but I really learned a lot!

Whenever I get up to leave for training, this sneaky dog jumps up on my bed and steals my spot on my pillow and under my blanket! I just thought it was the cutest thing.

What's next? I have a one week conference/orientation with Fort Worth ISD and then I have to report to school the week before school starts on August 24th! WOW school's starting SOON!!! I am SO incredibly excited. For those of you who don't know, I've been researching about grad schools and trying to decide which one to go to! Well, I've finally decided. I will be attending Texas A&M pursuing my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction! It's a distance learning program and there's a campus right by my place so thank God we finally decided! Now we're just praying for the financial aid to come through.

Other than that, Harlen is working a whole lot more so I see him less. But we always eat dinner together every night and watch House or some other movie that I find around the house. I love having a permanent best friend! :)

Harlen's been working on his ancient CRX whenever he has free time and he just cleaned up the entire engine bay. It's looking pretty nice! I'm not excited when he starts to drive it though.. it has no air bags and since it's about to be considered an "antique" car, there's no requirements for it whatsoever! =/ HA, antique. I find that funny.

One day, while Harlen and I were lunching at Panda Express, I saw a stuffed Panda they had on sale! And me, being obsessed with pandas, REALLY wanted it! Harlen convinced me that it would be a waste of money so I sadly agreed. The next day as I got into my car... it was sitting in my steering wheel!! It really made my day! My hunnie is the best. :)

I received my very first Woot shirt in the mail today! It's called "I Wish..." and it's an elephant who wishes he could be in the circus. It's so cute and I love it! I didn't know what I was going to get because it was "random shirt day" and you basically pay $6 and they ship you whatever they find in their warehouse. Haha. Interesting eh?

It's been a tumultuous month for our little Panda as well. He had a rash on his butt, allergies flared up, and he got sunburned! Poor dear. But all is well now! Thanks to VASELINE (it's a miracle worker I tell ya!). I shall spare you guys the picture of the rash. =p

See that little pink dot on his nose? The ONLY spot on Panda that is not covered by hair. HAHA.

Well that's it for now! Hope you read to your hearts' content. Haha.

Love,
Kell

Summer & Seattle :)

So happy to be re-united with the Chins! I love my family so much. I am so blessed to be able to call them my parents, I thank God for giving them to me!

One day, we will go on a double date. Wait, I think we did. To the Thai restaurant which mom hated. Haha.

Happy to be together again!

Needed 2 more shorter/taller people to complete the "cingular/at&t" shot.

Just strolling the streets! Trying to find the Pike Place Market! Turns out we were walking in the wrong direction........ DAD!

God brought us together! <3

We are so cool. Ha.

My dad the thinker or.. sleeping?

We found Pike Place Market! It was AWESOME! Just tons of vendors selling their crafts and food and talents! Amazing.

Family picture! (We're almost always missing one member of the family because Peni-el didn't trust anyone on the street with her camera.)

If you go to Seattle, naturally, you go see the Space Needle!

Sisters <3

I like this shot!

We stopped at this place for ice cream.... mmmm.

Had to have DimSum! It was pretty darn good; this was the only picture we got. The photographer was too distracted eating to take pictures. Haha.

The pictures speak for themselves. We had an awesome time with my family just enjoying each others' company and exploring the city. I have more pictures uploaded on Facebook so go check them out there!

Other than Seattle, I've been busy trying to apply to school districts and to grad school! I'm going to get my Master's degree in Education and Teaching. I can't wait to get started on it! Summer has been awesome so far. :)

Kellee's On Vacation!

Hello folks!

I've officially been on vacation for 10 days now! For those who don't know, my OPT/work permit expired last Monday so I've been sitting on my keister for a while now. It's a very nice, relaxing mandatory vacation if I do say so myself! Harlen's done with his school so he's been working and bringing home the bacon; it's rather nice actually.

So Harlen and I have been spending a lot of time together and we've had the opportunity to watch several different movies and shows in the past couple days. Here's a list of what we've seen so far: Yesman, Sex in the City (the movie), Coyote Ugly (I've been wanting to watch this since.. middle school?), Killing Zoe (a movie from the 80s?), Sexdrive, and the best of all, Dexter. I'm hooked. Dexter is this series on Showtime about a serial killer with a strict moral code and he only kills serial killers. Love it! It's kind of gruesome so if you don't like seeing body parts and blood, don't watch it.

This is Panda begging for our attention as Harlen, Jeremy, Richard, and I watched Dexter in Jeremy's room. I got bored for a sec.

Lately, I've been wanting to update my closet a little bit so I finally went out and picked out a couple new pieces for my wardrobe! Want to see?

Got this at Abercrombie. I thought it looked rather cute and summer-y. Paired with some white shorts? Yeahhhhhh.

HAD to buy this because well, my dog's name is Panda. AND I'm a big fan of saving wildlife. Those pandas better not get themselves extinct!! I haven't had the chance to see a real one yet!

I really like this dress. Very Spring. <3

My FAVORITE! I love this butterfly print top and the way it cinches at the bottom!

Hmm, other than my insane need to find cute clothes at a bargain, I have bigger news! I passed the certification test for me to teach Special Education EC-12!! For those whom I did not tell, that test was HELL. 5 hours of staring at a monitor with someone else watching me via security camera! I wasn't even allowed to take off my sweater! WOW. Well, I stuck it to them real good. I put gum in between the sheets of scratch paper so they won't be able to sift through my scribblings. Ha. Take that. I'm such a bad ass right.

We've also been spending quite a bit of time at Harlen's parents' house just chilling and spending time with the family. We live in Arlington so every trip to Coppell, Texas is practically a road trip. The only thing that entertains us is Panda's insane need to feel the 70mph wind on his face! He growls at every single grandma that rolls down her window to say "awww hi puppy!" and he's also learned to use his weight to balance whenever Harlen makes a crazy turn. Pretty darn smart dog. :)

And since Harlen refuses to pose for those road trip pictures that everyone takes, I take pictures of Panda!

He LOVES sticking his head out of the window. Once I tried to trick him and turned on the AC full blast because I didn't feel like having my window down, nope didn't work. He HAS to have his window down!

Smilin' and happy to be on the road!

I thought this picture was kind of cool. Him staring at a motorist wishing to be as cool as him. Haha.

Aaaaand last but not least, this is what I've been doing at Harlen's house... STUDYING & READING for that test that I barely passed! Yay! Harlen's old bedroom has been turned into Jeremy's architect/design room. There's plans and models EVERYWHERE!

Well, that's it for now! The next post will be after Harlen & I get back from SEATTLE, WASHINGTON where we will be re-uniting with the amazing Chin family!!! Whoohoo!

Love,
Kellee

Happy 1st Birthday, Panda!

Panda officially turns 1 tomorrow! YAY. I'm baking him homemade doggie cookies for his birthday. I'm sure he'll enjoy them; especially since he eats just about anything anyways.

So what's new with the Hoangs... hmm..

WELL, I've been desperately craving school again so I've been researching programs/certifications/etc. I'm currently torn between a pharmacy tech program and a veterinary tech associates degree. Why did I pick something that involves science, math, and basically all the subjects I detest? Well, I want a challenge, basically, and a change. AND the vet tech program appeals to me because it would somewhat fulfill a lifelong dream of mine to become a vet! Minus the surgeries and what not. We shall see where God leads on this one! For now, I'm just glad I have something to research again. EDIT: God spoke to both Harlen & I separately and I will be pursuing teaching! (My original hearts' desire) :)

As for Harlen, he's still working part time for Discount Tire but he has been looking for an engineering internship for the summer. We looked up Honda and he found an internship that he really wants but it's in Ohio! It's kind of his hearts' desire so, depending on what happens and what door God opens, we may be moving to Ohio after he graduates (which we're both super psyched about!).

So that is what's been on our minds for this month. We both feel so incredibly blessed to have all these wonderful opportunities in our life and the stability we have in order to chase our goals. We are waiting on the Lord to show us what and where He wants us to be. Please keep us in your prayers! Other than that, we are happily married; loving and cherishing our marriage more and more every day!

Here is the birthday boy nappin after his crazy day of partying!

He got some pretty charms from his "godmother" ashley for his birthday!!

It's Springtime!

Spring is my FAVORITE season of the year! Everything is blooming again.. you start to see little baby ducklings.. ahhh. I know what you're thinking and no, Harlen and I will not have any new babies of our own this Spring! Ha.. human or dog. =p

GOOD NEWS! We finally got a new car! I kind of miss the Camry though but this new car is soo beautiful! I love it. :) It's an 07 Honda Fit! It needs new paint and some work on it.. but it gives me a chance to learn something new and work on my car! Here are some pictures! Anyone want to donate to the "Fix Kellee's Car" fund? Heehee

Butt view! <3

Front!

Panda's already claimed his seat! Guess Harlen will have to sit in the back! Haha..

Anyways, besides getting a new car.. I've sent in my application for PR! I sure hope I get my work permit soon or else I won't be able to work for awhile! Eek. Harlen & I were looking at the review for the US citizen test and the questions are so ridiculous! ie: who is Abraham Lincoln? (the guy with the top hat and beard.. DUH), who is George Washington? (the guy who lied about chopping down a cherry tree! Ha), who makes decisions for the country? (the GOVERNMENT?) Those are all possible answers.. it made me laugh b/c when Harlen saw the questions, he goes "WOW that is a hard test!" I looked at him, bewildered, and he goes.. "ohhhhh I thought it was a spelling test!" LMAO.

Panda was at the pet hospital all day being treated for infected ears and his clogged anal glands.. EEW. They called and told me that his anal glands had to be "expressed." Which basically meant that they were going to squeeze his *ahem* until stuff came out! GROSS. Any way, all that cost me a lovely $90! Having a dog is expensive nowadays, ain't it?!

Here's the little lazy dog chillin after his visit to the vet (aka person who violated him!).

Hmm, I also finally cooked some genuine chinese food today! Thanks to Vicky! I called her asking how to cook some veggies and she asked what kind of veggies I'm cooking. My reply was, "you know.. the green things that mom cooked?" Shows how long I've been cooking veggies! LOL never. But after a quick lesson on the phone, everything turned out just dandy! Harlen loved it anyway.

Well that's all I have for you folks! Till next time!

Love, Kell

2.15.2009

WOW it's February ALREADY?!

As Harlen and I celebrated "I Love You" day yesterday (I asked him.. so if today is "I Love You" day, then what is every other day? He said, every other day is "I Love You" day without a present! LOL), I realized that we've been married for over half a year now! How crazy! We've been so blessed to have so many married mentors and friends to counsel and guide us. :)

Anywho, for ILY day, Harlen replaced my Rubik's Cube that I LOST in Vancouver with a brand spanking new one! It's a super duper more awesome cube though! He got 6 of our pictures and cut them into little pieces and make my Rubik's cube into a picture cube! It was one of the most romantic and thoughtful gifts ever! I love you babe!

To distract me from being miserable because of my job, I've taken to watching old Chinese dramas from my childhood to cheer myself up. It's doing quite a wonderful job if I do say so myself! Don't laugh, but I've been watching "Huan Zhu Ge Ge!" I've also finished the Korean drama "Full House" which my sis recommended. Harlen watched that one with me too. Ha.

I really miss school and the more and more I see Harlen study and do homework, the more I want to go back! I'm determined to go back to school once my PR thing is settled. As of right now, I'm planning on getting my teachers' certification to teach at middle school/high school level. We shall see where God leads.

Please pray for Harlen as he is going through a stressful time with all his exams, homework, and tests. Even though I see him somewhat stressed, I envy him. I miss THAT kind of stress! Haha.. I bet when I'm back at school, I'll miss working full time.

Since my last post, Panda has learned a bucket full of new tricks other than peeing on his pad! He knows how to wave, high five, shake, and roll-over (half way lol)!! It's so exciting seeing him learn new tricks.. he's getting smarter and smarter every day! Well.. sorta.

Okay, well time to go to sleep! Blessings!

Love,
Kellee
